LLB (Hons), Chartered UK & European Trade Mark Attorney, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (CITMA). 

As part of the Trade Marks Team, John advises on all aspects of trade mark law, but has a particular expertise in advising on clearance searches, and prosecuting and defending oppositions (including negotiating and drafting settlement agreements). 

John studied Law at the University of West England, and qualified as a Chartered UK and European Trade Mark Attorney in 1990. He was awarded the John Parker Award for obtaining the highest total marks in his Intermediate year. 

Immediately prior to joining Potter Clarkson, John was Managing Director of Markforce Associates, a firm of Trade Mark Attorneys and a division of Interbrand (a global brand consultancy). Previous experience includes working in-house for BT Plc (an international telecommunications company). 

John is a former Council Member and Treasurer of CITMA and was elected a Fellow of CITMA in 1998. He joined Potter Clarkson as a Partner in 1999, and served on the Board of Management between 2010-2012.  

John is listed as an IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property for 2017. 

Outside of work, John enjoys reading, playing tennis and coastal walks in Cornwall. He is also trustee to a charity who help adults with learning difficulties.
